13  Tips for Parents at Work
In a work environment, the more your baby is held (be it in a carrier, sling, or just nestled in your lap) and touched, the more content your baby will be.

Some parents become concerned that they are holding their babies "too much" and that the babies will never become independent or learn to walk.  The scientific and biological evidence is clear, though, that frequent holding is crucially important for babies and that babies who develop secure emotional attachments grow up to be far more
well-adjusted and independent.

   Keeping your baby

has extensive physical and emotional benefits for your baby, and the greater
contentment of your baby means an easier and happier life for you as well.

Too often in our society, we think of holding babies as a "treat" for the baby--
as though touch should be rationed.  But, to babies, constant physical contact with another person is what they expect and crave.  If you think of constant holding as the "norm," and make your decisions from that perspective, you and your baby's lives are likely be a lot happier.

This is not to say that you can't ever put your baby down next to you while she's happily exploring a toy or while you're talking to her.  But extensive holding is by far the healthiest approach for your baby (it's also a fun way to increase your own strength and endurance, especially in those early years of children's lives when time for exercise is hard to come by).
