mothers the agony of leaving their babies for forty or more hours a week when their bodies and minds are telling them that the most important thing is to stay with their babies. All these things help to improve
employees' family lives and, by being happier at home, they will be under less stress--which means fewer illnesses.

Baby Program
Attracts Employees

A baby program also helps to attract skilled employees.  Debbie Butler specifically applied to work at Valley Credit Union because she heard about their baby program, even though her children were all past the age where she could utilize the  program herself.  She was impressed by the fact that Valley offered such an innovative benefit to its employees, and she knew that it was the kind of company she wanted to work for.  She said that
she's found that the baby program is very appealing to other potential employees.  As she described it, job candidates say, "Wow, I could have brought my baby to work?"  Susan Matthews of Borshoff said that:

We have people coming in to interview for
jobs who are single with older kids [and
thus wouldn't use the program themselves],
but they say, "It's such a cool program, I
want to work for a company that does
   something like that."

   Dan Pinger said that he:

thinks there are people who, when it came
to a decision as to whether they would
accept our offer to work here or a
competitor's offer, they accepted ours.  I
think [the baby program] was one of the
selling points for the agency to get bright
   talent.
